Terms

Last updated

Willet is a free, non-commercial index of open-source projects, run by one editor. By using the site you agree to these terms. They’re short on purpose.

Using the site

Browsing needs no account. Don’t try to break the site, get around its rate limits, or scrape it so hard that it slows down for everyone else.

Comments

To comment you sign in with GitHub, and your GitHub account must be at least 30 days old. Comments are plain text with links, up to 2,000 characters. They show your GitHub username, display name, and avatar. There are limits on how many comments and edits you can post in a short time.

Keep comments about the project. Don’t post:

  • Spam, ads, or affiliate links.
  • Abuse, harassment, threats, or hate.
  • Other people’s private information.
  • Anything illegal, or links to malware.
  • Content you don’t have the right to share.

Anyone can report a comment. The editor may hide or delete any comment, with or without a report, and doesn’t have to explain why.

You own what you write. By posting, you let us show it on the site for as long as it’s up. You can edit or delete your own comments at any time; a deleted comment’s text is removed, not kept.

Removal requests

A project’s maker can ask for its listing to be removed with “Request removal” on the project page. A request from the repo’s owner, signed in with GitHub, hides the listing right away while the editor reviews it. Other requests wait for the editor. A current or upcoming pick is flagged for the editor instead of hidden.

Confirmed removals are permanent: the project won’t be listed again. Please only ask for removal of projects you made or speak for. Requests that misuse the form are dismissed.

Data from GitHub

Facts on a listing (stars, license, language, dates, the author’s public name and avatar) come from GitHub’s official API and are refreshed every night. They can be a day behind. Descriptions and the editor’s notes are our own words; we never copy a project’s README.

Project names, logos, and code belong to their makers and are covered by their own licenses. A listing isn’t an endorsement by GitHub or by the project.

The Star button

The Star button acts on your own GitHub account through a GitHub app that can only star and unstar repos. GitHub’s own terms apply to what you do there. You can disconnect it at any time.

No warranties

We list projects we think are good, but we don’t test, audit, or support them. Read a project’s code and license before you use it. Everything on Willet is provided as is, without any warranty. We aren’t responsible for what happens when you use a listed project, or if the site is down or wrong.

Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For questions, write to [contact address to be added]. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
