DesktopCommanderMCP
MCP server that lets AI assistants run terminal commands and edit files
What it is
Desktop Commander is an MCP server that gives Claude Desktop and other MCP clients access to your local machine: running and managing terminal processes, searching files with ripgrep, and making targeted search-and-replace edits. It also reads and writes Excel, PDF, and Word files, runs Python, Node.js, or R code in memory, and keeps a local log of tool calls. Developers and analysts use it to have a chat assistant work directly on their files and shell without paying per-token API costs.
