What it is

systemd is the first process started on most Linux systems, bringing up the rest of the machine and supervising services through unit files. Alongside the core manager it ships components for logging (journald), network configuration, DNS resolution, login sessions, timers, containers, and device handling. Distribution maintainers and system administrators rely on it to boot machines, start and restart daemons, and inspect what is running.
