What it is
Strands Agents is a free, open-source library for Python and TypeScript that supplies the agent loop, tools, MCP support, structured output, memory, sessions, multi-agent patterns, guardrails, tracing and evals, with no hosted control plane required. It works with Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini and other model providers, and includes a preassembled harness agent plus a CLI for chatting with it from the terminal. Developers who would otherwise hand-write an agent loop use it to ship production agents with turn limits, token budgets and hooks for inspecting each step.
