What it is

OpenWA runs WhatsApp Web sessions on your own server and exposes them through a REST API, webhooks, and a WebSocket event stream. It supports multiple concurrent sessions, a React dashboard for managing sessions, webhooks, and API keys, and keys that can be limited to specific sessions or chats. Developers building bots, support integrations such as Chatwoot or Typebot, or n8n workflows use it to automate WhatsApp without a paid hosted provider. Storage, database, and cache backends (SQLite or PostgreSQL, local or S3, Redis) are chosen through configuration.
