What it is

pytest is a test framework and runner for Python that finds test files and functions automatically and reports failed assertions with the values involved. Fixtures handle setup and teardown of shared resources, tests can be parametrized, and existing unittest suites run without changes. Python developers rely on it for everything from quick unit tests to large functional test suites, often extended through its large plugin ecosystem.
