What it is

Prisma ORM lets TypeScript and Node.js developers define a data contract and query PostgreSQL or MongoDB through a fully typed client, with migrations and a CLI for scaffolding projects. Version 8 is a TypeScript rewrite with a small core and a public extension interface, used for add-ons such as pgvector, PostGIS, and full-text search. It also installs agent skill files so coding assistants like Claude Code or Cursor can make schema and query changes. Backend and full-stack teams use it in place of hand-written SQL and loosely typed query builders.
