What it is

pgrust rebuilds the PostgreSQL server in Rust, matching the original's wire protocol and SQL dialect and passing its full regression suite. It adds a vectorized JIT-compiled executor, thread-based concurrency, a query scheduler, a built-in out-of-memory guard, and a columnar storage layout for analytics. Database engineers and Postgres users can try it in the browser via WebAssembly or run it on their own servers to test workloads, though the authors advise keeping real Postgres for production data. Existing Postgres extensions are not supported yet.
