What it is

Jenkins is a Java-based automation server that runs build, test, analysis, and deployment jobs, defined through a web UI or as pipeline code in a Jenkinsfile. A catalog of roughly two thousand plugins connects it to version control systems, build tools, cloud providers, and notification services. Engineering teams install it on their own machines or containers to run continuous integration and delivery pipelines they control end to end.
