mise

Per-project tool versions, environment variables, and task runner

What it is

A command-line tool that reads a mise.toml file to install the right versions of languages and tools like Node.js, Python, and Terraform for each project, set environment variables and load .env files, and run build or test tasks with that setup. It switches versions automatically as you move between directories and works the same in shells, editors, and CI. A bootstrap command can also provision a whole machine with packages, dotfiles, and services. Developers juggling many projects use it to keep teammates and CI on identical toolchains.
