What it is

Magika identifies the content type of files using a small neural network that reads only part of each file, returning a label, MIME type, and confidence score in a few milliseconds on a CPU. It recognizes over 200 binary and textual formats and falls back to generic labels when unsure, with selectable confidence modes. It ships as a Rust command-line tool plus Python, JavaScript, Rust, and Go bindings, so security engineers and developers can route or triage uploaded files by what they actually contain rather than by extension.
